What is kidney cancer?

Also known as renal cancer, is the cancer that begins in your kidneys. Almost all kidney cancers first appear in the lining of tiny tubes in the kidney.

Kidney Cancer Symptoms

  • Blood in your urine
  • Lump in your side/abdomen
  • Loss of appetite
  • Pain in your side that does not go away
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Fever that lasts for weeks and isn’t caused by a cold or other infections
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Anemia
  • Swelling in your ankles or legs
  • Shortness of breath
  • Coughing up blood
  • Bone pain

Kidney Cancer Causes

Although direct causes are unclear, here are certain factors that can increase the risk for the development:

  • Smoking
  • Being male
  • High blood pressure
  • African American descent
  • Obesity
  • Family history of kidney cancer
