John Moffet’s Story

“When I found out I was going to be a granddad I knew I had to stay and fight Lymphoma; even with my hands full dealing with diabetes & heart disease.”

My name is John Moffet and I was diagnosed with Lymphoma. One day I collapsed on the floor and was rushed to the hospital where they diagnosed me with Lymphoma. I was already suffering from diabetes & heart disease; lymphoma was just one more challenge I had to face. Initially I was scared as I had my hands full dealing with so many health issues, but I couldn’t give up now. I was about to be a grandparent. My son would soon welcome his first baby; I had to fight to stay alive. I underwent 6 rounds of chemo every 3 days for 20 months. I also did some preventive chemo & radiation at Moffit Cancer Center in Tampa. I experienced many side effects from hair loss, toe nails falling off, blackened nails, and fingertips constantly numb. I was then referred to the Cancer Center of Sarasota-Manatee where I was initially seen by Dr.Mamus and somehow diverged into Dr.Sholi’s care. I immediately felt comfortable and confident with Dr.Sholi. From front desk, to nurses & medical assistants the staff at the cancer center has been excellent. I cannot think of one complaint, or stress enough how much the Cancer Center has helped me in my recovery.
