Chemotherapy

Given in both our Sarasota and Bradenton locations, chemotherapy or “chemo” is a form of cancer treatment that uses chemical agents to kill abnormal cells. Chemotherapy is an effective cancer treatment that allows patients to enjoy full and productive lives.

Dr. Mamus and his team have extensive knowledge and experience in administering chemotherapy. Your team will help you to determine if this treatment method is right for you, and work with you to develop a care plan.

The Cancer Center doctors and nurses ensure that our patients are educated and informed when it comes to making important decisions regarding their care. We take the time to explain options, answer questions, and address concerns.

The more you understand the goals and risks of each treatment option the better prepared you are to be an active participant in your own recovery. Talk with your doctor about issues that are important to you and may affect your treatment choice – such as time away from family or concerns about side effects.

Some of the side effects associated with chemotherapy include nausea, vomiting, fatigue and hair loss. However, due to advancements in side effect therapy, many of these can be controlled or even prevented. In some cases, almost no side effects are experienced. Our goal is to make your treatment as effective, timely, and problem free as possible. We work closely with our patients and their families, discussing their progress, and making adjustments if necessary, throughout the treatment and recovery process.

“We understand that you may experience fear or anxiety during this challenging and emotionally charged time. Our You-Centric approach places you at the center of your treatment – where you will be surrounded by our caring, experienced, and expert team.”
